LDN 1251 Dark Jellyfish

This image is both the result - and the starting point - of a process with my gear.
I managed to make longer exposures than what I got until now with my Star Adventurer.

I went in a beautiful location on a mountain (bortle 4, 1.000mt high) .
Then I installed my 'beauty': the Meade 5000 80/480 f/6 refractor (first version: "old is gold" ) with a field flattener 0.8x; resulting focal lenght 384mm, f/4.8. Then the camera 294Mc Pro with 1.25" Uv-Ir filter.
The total weight is around 4kg. The max payload of the Star Adventurer is 5kg.
A kind of challenge. The refractor seemed a beast with the dewcap pulled out, on the compact SA. But the sturdy Eq6 tripod and the William Optics base could easly keep it without problems.
So I carefully leveled the tripod and got an 'excellent' Polar Alignment with Sharpcap.

After many trials did in the previous weeks from my home, I finally was able to use this gear on the field. And the result really pleased (and surprised) me. I was able to guide until 90 seconds, at 384mm FL with 4 kg of gear, guiding only in AR, getting round stars. With Uv-Ir filter I don't need longer exposures, so I'm done and happy with this! Finally I can use a true telescope instead of camera lens (which, by the way, i like a lot) in itinerant travels under darker sky and I'm so glad because I spent a lot of time trying to reach this result... and it saved me from buying a more expensive mount!

I did not go there for this image, but to test and try this setup (also the first time I cool down the camera in itinerant travel with the portable power generator), and hopefully to reach the goal of 90 seconds exposures - and it happened.

So the image is an extra bonus for me, hope you like it!

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
